S.A.R. Princess Sofia Sailing Trophy in Palma de Majorca’s Bay
At the end of March to early April each year, Palma de Majorca celebrates the S.A.R. Princess Sofia Sailing Trophy, in the bay of Palma. This international sailing event is one of seven trophies comprising the ISAF Sailing World Cup. The Princess Sofia Trophy is normally sponsored by a local company and organised by 3 nautical clubs of Majorca, 1 sailing school and the Balearic and Spanish Federations. Over 600 teams from over 50 nations from around the world will participate in this first European event of the ‘ISAF Sailing World Cup’. One of the goals of these races is to qualify for the Olympic and Paralympic sailing events for the London 2012 Olympics.
12 classes will participate in the 2011 edition of the trophy, distributed across 4 different locations within the bay and over the whole week the sea will be awash with sails. These views are best enjoyed from any terrace or bar overlooking the bay of Palma de Majorca.
